Fluffy powder, amazing off-piste and fascinating Japanese culture are all ingredients in this Hokkaido ski adventure. We will alter between great ski areas on the island and aim for an unforgettable powder feast, spiced up with a couple of backcountry tours.

Japan’s “north island” Hokkaido has a legendary status as a powder skiing destination. Strategically placed for receiving cold and dry snow, Hokkaido ski areas gets dumped with up to a whooping 15-20 meters of snow annually.

During our week of Hokkaido ski adventures we will stay in two different areas and go for the places with the best snow conditions. The entire trip will be accompanied by a Swedish (Upplevelsebolaget) travel and ski guide. Lift-borne piste and off piste skiing will be mixed with ski touring, if conditions allow.

We will start out in Kiroro in the south western part of the island, not far from Sapporo, our port of arrival and departure. Mid week we will move to Furano in the center of Hokkaido, where lift-borne runs can be mixed with ski touring in the dramatic central Hokkaido landscape of old volcanoes. A natural hot tub, onsen, might wait for us when the skiing day is over.

Travel to and from

You will need to get to Japan on your own. You fly to Sapporo (New Chitose Airport), where we will arrange for airport pick up on our day of arrival. If you decide to prolong your Japanese trip and arrive earlier we will meet you at our first accommodation. Details will be received after booking.

Previous experience

You don’t need to be an expert skier to join, but you will certainly get more out of your week if you have skied a bit of off-piste earlier. Previous experience of ski touring is a merit but not necessary.

Equipment

For the ski touring days you will need the following ski touring and safety equipment.

Randonné package (skis, bindings, boots, skins and poles designed for ski touring)
Safety package (transceiver, spade, probe)

Please note that safety package is compulsory during all skiing throughout the week.

We cooperate with Black Diamond. If you don’t have your own equipment, or want to try out new equipment, you can rent at good prices from us.
